Also known as: Haematococcus pluvialis extract, Natural astaxanthin
Astaxanthin is a powerful carotenoid antioxidant produced by microalgae. It is 6.000 times more potent than vitamin C in singlet oxygen quenching and supports skin, eye, cardiovascular, and exercise recovery.
Astaxanthin is a xanthophyll carotenoid produced naturally by the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis and responsible for the red-pink color of salmon, shrimp, and flamingos. It is one of the most powerful antioxidants found in nature, with a unique molecular structure that spans the cell membrane bilayer, providing protection against oxidative damage on both sides. Unlike beta-carotene and lycopene, astaxanthin does not exhibit pro-oxidant activity at high concentrations. Research supports its benefits for skin UV protection, exercise performance and recovery, cardiovascular health, and eye fatigue. It is classified as a lipid-soluble compound and is best absorbed with dietary fat.
Astaxanthin quenches singlet oxygen 6.000x more effectively than vitamin C and 800x more than CoQ10. It reduces CRP, IL-6, and oxidative stress biomarkers.
Oral astaxanthin supplementation reduces UV-induced skin damage, improves elasticity, and decreases wrinkle depth after 6–12 weeks.
Astaxanthin may reduce exercise-induced oxidative damage and muscle soreness, improving endurance performance in trained athletes.
With a fat-containing meal for optimal absorption
